The Page

Every journey has a beginning, and for one working toward becoming a knight it begins with the Page.

The historical Page was a young boy, usually about 5 or 6 when he began his service . Normally he was sent off to an uncles house or close family friend to begin his journey to becoming a knight. Whatever the case, the nobles house that he was sent to would begin his education in the ways of knighthood by first serving others.

The Page was usually assigned to serve the lady of the house, work in the kitchens, cleaning, and general housekeeping tasks. It was in these years of service that he would learn that he did not serve himself but that it was more honorable to serve others. Men of Iron continues that tradition of service in the first advancement level.

The Pages Workbook

The Pages Workbook has been designed to guide you through the process of becoming a page. The information in the workbook will help you become a gentleman, a servant, and will lay the foundations of one day becoming a knight.

The theme of the Page level is Service and how you can be of service to both our King and to others. The workbook topics covered are:

  • Becoming a Page
  • Servant Leadership
  • The Household and your role in it
  • The Value of a Mentor
  • The Rules of Courtesy and how to become a Noble Gentleman
  • Developing your own medieval garb
  • Preparing to Quest for the Cross

A major key to your success on this path will be finding and working with a mentor to become a Page. This can be a knight in your household, your head of household or a pastor. Whoever fills that role, make sure that you choose wisely!

It should be noted that like the church, we do not serve one leader or ministry but we work collectively as a body for the overall success of the church. Likewise, Pages do not serve one individual, they collectively serve the household for the overall success of the household. It is the responsibility of the head of the household to see that all members of the household are treated fairly and with the dignity we would treat the King himself. After all, though we are his subjects, we are all heirs to the Kingdom of heaven!

Regulations for Pages

Members who are working on becoming a Page and those who have become Pages will have just a few limitations on what can be worn with a Men of Iron outfit. As a member advances in Men of Iron, he will earn privilege’s that will instantly identify his rank within the realm. Some of those are as follows:

  • Pages will not wear their own personal arms until they become a knight. There are no exceptions to this rule. This is a privilege reserved for only Knights.
  • Pages are not yet responsible for any arms or armor. The rules of martial combat are explored more when a Page begins to work toward becoming a Squire. Because of this, Pages do not wear swords, daggers or any armor with their garb. This is a privilege reserved for Squires and Knights.
  • Pages who are active members may engage in all tournament activities. When the tournament guidelines call for armor to be worn for safety purposes, Pages who participate in these events are expected to adhere to these rules. This is the exception to the wearing of armor rule for pages.
  • Pages, Squires, Knights or any other member of Men of Iron will not bow to any other member. Members may greet one another with a handshake, a brotherly embrace or a nod. We bend our knee only to the King of Kings. The only exception to this is during the knighting ceremony. Squires who have completed the Knights Ordeal will kneel before the Baron or the representative of the Crown Prince for his dubbing ceremony. This is purely ceremonial and will be the only time one man kneels before another in Men of Iron.

Completing the Pages Workbook

The Pages workbook has been developed for every member of Men of Iron to use in his journey to knighthood. This will not only serve as has path to earning the level of Page but the information within will continue to be a reference for each member as they strive to live by the Code of Chivalry.

Each workbook has a unique serial number that is only available by purchasing a printed copy of the workbook. This serial number is required when submitting the application for advancement. The full Pages Workbook is available for viewing from this site with no serial number.

Pages will be awarded the Pages Certificate, Award Pin that is worn on the Belt Banner, Pages Challenge beads and all of the privilege’s of a Page.

Be sure to follow all of the instructions found on the application. Any missing information will delay the processing of the application. The Pages Application for Advancement is found on the Forms and Applications page of this website.
